Samsung Galaxy Gear could have dual-core CPU, 10-hour battery life

espite the recent announcement that the Samsung Galaxy Gear will be unveiled at the upcoming IFA, we’ve still been rather starved for details. However, some information about the smartwatch has been revealed courtesy of Gigaom and AmongTech. 

Apparently, the Galaxy Gear is set to have a high-quality 2.5-inch OLED display that will be able to show a full spectrum of colours. Under the hood, it will be powered by a dual-core Exynos 4212 processor clocked at 1.5GHz and a Mali-400 MP4 GPU. The display resolution is expected to be 320 x 320 pixels.

The smartwatch will be equipped with NFC and Bluetooth 4.0 LE, allowing for easy syncing with smartphones. It also has an accelerometer. The display itself can support touch and swipe gestures. It is based on Android 4.1 and 4.2, and has some syncing with smartphones and tablets. For example, swiping a notification on the smartwatch will open it up on the smartphone. There will also be integration with Twitter and Facebook.

Managing the smartwatch can be done via the companion app, screenshots of which have been revealed by serial leaker @evleaks. It is rumoured that the app won't be available through Google Play. Instead, it will only be downloadable from the Samsung App Hub. This hints at the Galaxy Gear being exclusive to Samsung's devices.

The smartwatch is expected to have a great battery life. Some say that it will be able to stay alive for ten hours. It will have 1GB of RAM and will be available in two variants—6GB and 8GB. It is also expected to sport a 4 megapixel camera with 720p recording capabilities.
